Who we are
Bart's actually started in the early 1900's in Tonawanda, New York as a diner founded by Spiro Zefferys and his brother John, both immigrants from Greece. The diner--then called Zefferys' Luncheonette--had over 60 happy and successful years. When they announced that their diner was closing, people lined up for a block and a half for a last meal.
Fast forward to 2018, when Spiro's granddaughter Anna--who grew up eating his and her grandmother's incredible chocolate fudge, caramel sauce, peanut brittle, homemade bread and garden fresh meals--decided to revive the old business with a fresh spin.
Bart's Better Foods aims to make eating well easier with fresh, healthy and flavorful spins on old time favorites like toppings for ice cream, burger patties and ice cream. Everything we make is gum free, corn syrup free, preservative free, soy free, dairy free, palm free, meat free and egg free. All of our ‘meat’ blends are also grain free.
Joined by Nick and Marlene, her father and mother, Anna created the recipes and the family runs the business together from Whidbey Island in Washington State. The family spent summers on the Island every year before the children went off to college and Nick and Marlene left for work overseas with their youngest son.
The food business brought everyone back together to bring Bart's Better to life! Inspired by the Irish lineage of Marlene, Bart became the name of the company representing zest for life and real food and joy.
